INDOOR AIR POLUTION is what we are really talking about. The air in our homes is a combination of millions of small particles and gases. New homes with tighter construction and more man made materials is making our home air far more polluted than outdoor air. What does it consist of?

Viruses-bacteria

Pollen spores

Dust

Pet dander

Human skin flakes

Dust mites-dropings

These are just a few of the most common types of polutants that we have inside our homes, air conditioning equipment and ducts.

There are four ways in which to treat indoor air polution. Solutions usually involves multiple treatments.

1 SOURCE REDUCTION  is the ability to remove the offensive source. Not always practicle if it involves a smoking member of the family or beloved pet. Also most building materials, carpeting, and funiture can give off offensive gases. It is harder and harder to find material that is not man made.

2 DILUTION requires the exchanging of indoor air with outdoor air. When the weather permits opening the doors and windows will work. However when you are conditioning the air in your home this is not practicle and will require a mechanicle Enthalipic Core Energy Recovery Ventilator which will transfer sensible and latent heat to the air stream and help keep the energy bills low.

3 FILTRATION is removing particulates from the air which requires a whole house duct system and constant air movement to be effective. There are many types of filters and efficiency claims are very misleading. When it comes to removing indoor air polution it can be categorized as follows.

BASIC FILTER like the kind found in most air handlers is for the protection of the unit only aproxamitly 3% to 5% efficient.

ELECTROSTATIC FILTER have a charge build up due to the air being draged through polystyrene fibers which will attract particulates. They have a high air resistance and require cleaning every 20 to 30 days. Efficiency 15%

MEDIA FILTERS are 5 inches of pleated material have low air resistance and high dirt holding capacity. May be used for 6 to 12 months before replacement. Efficiencys range from 40% to 50%

ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS are very low resistant filter that requires a power source to run. They require the cells to be cleaned every 30 days to maintain high efficiency cleaning of 90%.

LIFEBREATH AIR CLEANERS use a by-pass configuration drawing 10% of the air passing through the air handler which will filter 45% of the air in the home in one hour. They are the most efficient at aproximently 98% and qualify as a medical device.

5 AIR TREATMENT  is neutralizing the air polution. The best method for doing that without harmful chemicals is Ultraviolet Light Technology Our system literally sterilizes microorganisms. It reduces or eliminates mold, germs, viruses, bacteria, fungi, and spores from the air.
