Let Our Magic Work For You

If you're like most people, your air conditioning system is something of a mystery. It cools and in some cases, it heats your home or work place. But you don't know how.

It's really not that mysterious. In the most basic terms, air conditioning simply is the "conditioning" of the air within a defined space, usually a home, apartment, office or industrial building. Conditioning usually involves heating or cooling, adding or removing moisture, and cleaning or filtering the air.

If you have a "straight cool" air conditioner, your system only cools the space (by removing heat from the inside), and the heating is accomplished either by an add-on to the system such as an electric heat strip, or by a separate unit such as a furnace.

Heat pumps, (sometimes called reverse cycle systems) are very popular herebecause a single system can both efficiently heat and cool the air, and uses less heating energy than a furnace alone. A heat pump acts as a straight cool air conditioner in the warmer seasons by removing warm air from the inside of the building. When cool weather arrives, the heat pump simply reverses its cycle and transfers heat from the outdoor air to inside the building. Heat pumps can heat a building effectively until the outdoor temperature drops below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. After that, heating is supported by an add-on electric heat strip.

The design of your heating and air conditioning system is based upon scientific principles of thermodynamics to ensure that your system will maintain your comfort, while minimizing energy costs

In the summer season, heat flows into your home through your ceilings, walls, windows, doors and foundation. In the winter season, heat flows out of your home through these same sources. Determining the rate at which heat enters or leaves each area of your home is key to the proper sizing of the duct work and cooling and heating equipment.

Determining the heat flow rates in your home is a complicated process requiring computer processing for accuracy. Walls, ceilings, windows and doors have different heat transfer rates. and every home is different. That is the reason for a comprehensive inspection of your home to gather the technical information needed to calculate the transfer rate and factors unique to your home. This is referred to as calculating your heating and cooling load.

In addition to this calculation, we also perform a visual inspection to determine trouble spots where undesirable attic, crawlspace or outside air is entering your system. This can reduce the capacity and efficiency of your system by as much as 15-20%. On a 3 ton air conditioning system this can mean a loss of as much as 1/2 ton of your capacity. Our recommendations are designed to help you select a comfort system and make decisions that will yield maximum comfort at the lowest energy cost.

Air Conditioning consists of cooling a home and removing humidity from it also. When sysyems are sized and matched properly you can achieve both with a low operating cost.

The recommendations included in our proposals are an accumulation of this technical data and your specific requests, needs and interests. If, for any reason, our recommendations do not meet your personal requirements, please call and we will make any necessary modifications.
